Training Modules

Training can be completed once your GatorLink account and password have been created. Please be advised, activation of your GatorLink account can take up to 24 hours. Once it is active select the links below to complete the required training modules.

When prompted on the modules indicated with an asterisk (*) below, make sure to select “University of Florida” (not “UF Health Shands”) as your provider.

Required Training for Residents & Interns

All Residents & Interns (DVM and Technician):

Residents Only:

  • IACUC Training
    • IACUC Training is required for research activities during your residency. The module outlined below is the initial training and any additional departmental or research specific modules beyond this basic module will be completed post arrival.
    • Select “For Investigators” and sign in with your GatorLink username and password
    • Select “Getting Started with IACUC”  and review the instructions. Information includes:
      • 1.) Registering for IACUC
      • 2.) Filling out the “Risk Assessment for Animal Contact” form. This form was also mailed to you with your hire paperwork. If you have already filled it out and sent it back please disregard this step. If not please fill out this form and return it to: UF College of Veterinary Medicine c/o Glen Mapes 2015 SW 16th Avenue, Gainesville FL 32608) 
      • 3.) Signing up for the AALAS Library
    • Print or digitally keep a copy of your “Working with the IACUC” module certificate for future reference
    • Additionally, please forward a copy of your certificate to HouseOfficerSubmissions@vetmed.ufl.edu

Required Training for Specific Services

Small Animal Residents & Interns (DVM and Technician):

The following training reviews the overall infection control policies for the Small Animal Hospital and isolation polices when utilizing the isolation rooms located in the Progressive Care Ward

Technician Interns, Rotating Interns, Emergency Residents & Interns, Ophthalmology and Zoological Medicine Residents:

The following training is required in the event you have to process a payment overnight at the Emergency & Critical Care Front Desk

 Medical Oncology Interns & Residents and Anatomic Pathology Residents:

  • Respirator Training*
    • Once completed you will be registered by your service for a respirator fitting after you arrive on campus
    • If you need additional details please visit the UF EH&S website

Large Animal Interns & Residents, Zoological Medicine and Ophthalmology Residents:

  • USDA Accreditation Training
    • Complete the Initial Accreditation Training (IAT) by following the directions outlined here
    • Print your IAT completion certificate and have it available for collection during Orientation after you arrive on-campus
    • Fill out the VS Form 1-36A and have it available for collection during Orientation after you arrive on-campus
      • Under the License Category enter either LAP or FL License No.
      • LAP Designation: Once you complete the Federal and State Sessions during on-campus Orientation, you will be designated as LAP. This gives you the ability to use the UF license as long as and only while you are with UF. If you already attended a previous Federal Session you will only need to attend the State Session to obtain this designation.
