Dr. Dana Zimmel

The UF Veterinary Hospitals, the clinical arm of the UF College of Veterinary Medicine, opened its doors in 1978. Since that time, both our Small Animal Hospital and our Large Animal Hospital have provided referral services, consultations, emergency veterinary services and 24-hour care for companion animals, horses and other large animals, livestock, exotic pets and wildlife, including many endangered species.

Our services are predominantly offered within our hospitals here in Gainesville, but we also provide field services to beef and dairy farms in the area, as well as contractual veterinary services to a variety of zoological parks within the state.

At the UF Veterinary Hospitals, we treat our patients using a team approach. The team is headed by a senior clinician whose area of specialization is pertinent to the diagnosis and treatment of the patient’s problems. Other members of the team include interns, residents, students and technicians, all of whom, under the supervision of our senior staff clinician, play an important role in providing patient care and maintaining communication with our clients and our referring veterinarians.

Principles PinwheelOur core values are visualized with the patient, client and referring veterinarian at the heart of our pinwheel graphic. To achieve excellence requires teamwork, trust, integrity and accountability. We cherish the relationships we have built within the community, both with our referring veterinarians and with our clients, and we continually work to make our facilities a valuable resource to all who seek our services.

This website provides an overview of the servies, referral policies and clinicians in the hospital and we hope this information will help you better understand who we are and what we do here at the UF Veterinary Hospitals, and all we have to offer the animals entrusted to our care.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to serve you and welcome your feedback.

Sincerely,

Dana Zimmel, DVM, DACVIM, DABVP
